A childhood dream came true for Louis Creek’s Kayla Holowaychuk last Saturday evening when she became the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association’s 60th Queen. Many in the audience noted that perhaps a touch of déjà vu was evident as the first NT Fall Fair queen crowned in 1950 was also a Louis Creek girl, Sylvia Sheaves.
Six sparkling candidates ran for royal honours in this year’s pageant, which was most ably presented by Wendy McDermott and her hard working committee.
Starting with a Friday night evening of speech and talent competitions; and ending with the Saturday evening of impromptu questions and presentations, both events played to a packed house in the Barriere Curling Rink.
Miss AG Foods, Kayla Holowaychuk, will reign as Queen of the NTFFRA for the coming 2008/09 season, with her newly crowned princesses; Miss Barriere IDA Pharmacy Samantha Leader, and Miss Barriere Lions Katelyne Bonin.
The Friendship Award was presented to Miss Barriere A&W Jessica Peters, the Rising Star Award to Miss Barriere Lions Katelyne Bonin, the Barriere Chamber of Commerce Knowledge Award and the NTFFRA History Award to Kayla Holowaychuk, and the Gilbert Smith Forest Products Talent Award to Karina Pelayo. All of the candidates including Miss Station House Restaurant Mariah Gotro received Toastmaster awards.
